I just received an update this morning about the EIA postive horse and the others that were in contact with it. The following is from Dr Karin Martin.
28 horses were sold through the Meadville Livestock auction on 6-29. The
positive horse was located, retested positive, and euthanized.
6 of the horses were sold back to Ohio owners. Ohio Department of Agriculture
is in charge of locating those.
Tracebacks in PA have been accomplished on the remaining 21 horses. 5 of
the horses had been sent to slaughter for reasons unrelated to EIA. The
remainder of the horses have been located in Pennsylvania and are being
held in isolation until they can all be tested for EIA after the 45 day
incubation period has elapsed since exposure. That will be August 13. None
of the horses entered Delaware, New Jersey, Maryland or Virginia.
