Kenny Harlow Sponsor Appearances for Southern States

Kenny has been associated with Southern States for a little over a year now, and he is looking forward to having them
sponsor him in 2005 also. He recently made three appearances at Southern States events doing demonstrations and
showcasing his Training With Trust methods.

Below are some of the highlights...

Wicomico Farm and Home Show at Winterplace Park in Salisbury, MD on 8/21/04

Kenny talks to the audience at the                                                         Kenny Riding Blue Bridleless
          Southern States Demo in Salisbury
                    about horse training.

The first demonstration in Salisbury started around 10:30 a.m. and included both Kenny and his horse Blue.
Using Blue, he showed the crowd the fundamentals of his training methods...round penning, sacking out,
tacking, mounting, etc. Also, the crowd was treated to Blue and Kenny displaying just how soft and
responsive you can train your horse to be from exercises done on the ground.

Later in the afternoon, Kenny worked with "problem horses". The first was a yearling PMU baby who
could not be caught, haltered, wormed, or have it’s hooves trimmed. Well, by the end of the demo,
much to the amazement of the crowd, he had accomplished all of those things, and the filly was even
more calm than she was when he started! The second "problem horse" was one that wouldn’t "unload
from the trailer" properly. It had usually been taken from place to place in a stock trailer...the owners
had no problems getting it in the trailer, but when it was time to unload, it would turn around and pretty
much "jump" out. The wanted Kenny to teach it to back off the trailer quietly. Kenny accomplished this
by first re-training it to load very slowly (one hoof at a time) onto the trailer. Before the demo was over,
Kenny had the owner load and unload the horse several times. Another successful demo with a happy
horse owner!

The Great Pocomoke Fair in Pocomoke City, MD on 8/28/04

Kenny arrived at the Fair Grounds early on Saturday morning and set up. Then he was able to mingle
around with the crowd and answer questions about his horse Blue and his training. Around noon, he and
his associates were called upon to participate in the "Adult Mystery Class" by the hostess that day, Jeanette Eby.
As it turned out, he had his own stick horse version of his horse Blue so he figured he be a shoe-in to
win the event. As it turned out, he was out-placed by one of his own Certified Trainers and one of his
Apprentices whose horses were a little more "lively" than Blue! It was a fun class and everyone in the
crowd had plenty of laughs!

Later in the afternoon, Kenny and Blue demonstrated round penning and the methods Kenny uses to
start unbroke horses. With some crowd participation, he also demonstrated the "fine art of mounting
without a girth" to emphasize how using a mounting block is common courtesy to your horse. After the
demo, he had Blue do some tricks for the audience, including laying down.

In the Saddle and being ponied by              Putting her foot on the pedestal for trimming

Kenny’s final Southern States appearance for 2004 was in Centreville, MD. There were no demos
scheduled until the afternoon, so he was able to stay at the booth with his wife, Missy and talk to old
friends and clients and meet lots of new ones. Karen Engle, the local Southern States Representative
was a great hostess.

In Kenny’s first demo, he was working with an unbroke Welsh-Thorobred cross pony that was owned
by Heather Nicely, one of his first contacts with Southern States. He started with round-penning and
ended up the demo with Heather herself in the saddle for the colt’s first ride! It is amazing how in some
instances, you can start with an unbroke, and if you break the lessons down into little bits, you can end
up with it tacked and being ridden for the first time in just a few hours! Heather has high expectations for
this little pony, and it sure got a good start in the demo.

The next horse Kenny worked was an older mare who didn’t care to be tacked up and disliked standing
for the farrier even more! Kenny tackled both issues. First, he round penned the mare and made her
understand that he could control her movement without even touching her. Then he taught her to stand
still in one place. She worked up quite a sweat before she decided that it was much nicer to stand quietly
than to have to continue to circle the round pen. Once she got the message, Kenny went to work getting
her to "give" him her hooves, one at a time. He was able to get each one up onto a farrier’s pedestal and
even do some rasping on them. Things will be easier for her farrier from now on, that’s for sure. Then,
Kenny sacked her out and tacked her up while she was still standing quietly. The demo ended with her
owner, Sam, untacking and then re-tacking her by himself. She sure seemed like a "changed horse" after the demo.
